Irish Black

Irish Black

The Irish Black herd books were closed in 1971. All of the living animals of the breed trace directly back to five daughters of the first foundation bull. Irish Blacks are 99.98% pure Friesian blood. Three purebred bulls imported from Ireland and semen from Ireland, Holland, Germany and New Zealand. The breed has an extremely small highly concentrated gene pool that consistently transmits complete dominance in all of the essential gene traits from conception to slaughter. Regardless of the breed, or breeds, of females that the purebred bulls are mated with, all of the calves will look alike, perform the same and cut the same at high cut out values. The performance testing and slaughtering of hundreds of 1/2 and 3/4 blood calves, plus DNA gene testing and ultra sound scores, place Irish Black sired calves at the forefront for high consistency in carcass quality cut outs, choice and prime grades, 1200 to 1400 pounds at 12 to 14 months of age, with dressing percentages of 65% to 69%.
