Black Hereford

Selection for the Black Hereford breed of cattle was based first and foremost on fertility. Bulls were selected for testicular size and then for maternal and calving easetraits. By using a registered Black Hereford bull on a set of black commercial cows, you can eliminate red baldie calves.

Herefords have always been known for their feed efficiency and docile temperament. Black Herefords are known for the same traits plus “Color You Can Count On”.

The American Black Hereford Association was officially organized and started in 1994 in Lawrence, Kansas by the late John Gage. Since that time J&N Ranch, Leavenworth, Kansas purchased the Black Hereford herd and the Association in 1997.
